"Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely..."
Lord Acton, in a letter to Bishop Mandell Creighton, 1887
On Monday, January 11, 2010, while everyone was keeping an eye on this administration and its corruptible antics to stuff down our throats Global Warming bills through Cap and Trade, Obamacare, and Economic destruction through bailouts, someone forgot to watch what Obama's left hand was doing--signing an Executive Order. It's funny that there was no press whatsoever regarding this signing, especially since practically every decree President Obama has signed has been so with practically a parade and plethora of media attention, no matter how big or small. This event, however, received no attention.
The Executive Order, "Establishment of the Council of Governors," looks, to me, similar to a Marshal Law order, but what makes this one so dangerous is because it is a council of ten governors, appointed by the President. Although the decree says that no more than five shall be of the same political party, it can still be dangerous because of what we have seen in the structure of the Republican party which has its share of liberal political figures that vote with the Democrats. Not only that, but this decree also states that these appointees shall serve no more than two years, but yet a member may be appointed to an additional term. So, does that mean if this member is doing what the President wants and serves him better than others, he will be given additional years?
The function of this decree is, supposedly, to meet at the call of the Secretary of Defense or the Co-Chairs of the council to exchange views, information, or advice with the Secretary of Defense; the Secretary of Homeland Security; and other departments and agencies. These departments and agencies are to exchange views, information, or advice that concerns matters involving the National Guard of the various states, homeland defense, civil support, and the synchronization and integration of State and Federal military activities in the United States. It is that last one that concerns me and should concern every citizen.
Martial law in Poland refers to the period of time from December 13, 1981 to July 22, 1983, when the authoritarian government of the People's Republic of Poland drastically restricted normal life by introducing martial law in an attempt to crush political opposition to it. Thousands of opposition activists were interned without charge and as many as 100 people were killed. Although martial law was lifted in 1983, many of the political prisoners were not released until the general amnesty in 1986. It was in Poland that a General took control of Poland and the people's lives, enslaving them in their own country. Claiming Poland on the verge of collapse, General of the Army, Wojciech Jaruzelski made himself head of the Polish government.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martial_law_in_Poland Jaruzelski felt the people were not smart enough to care for themselves and decided that he and the Military Counsel of National Salvation new what was best and took control through military action--Marshal Law. Not all countries started out as socialist or communist, it was through a slow and gradual process that the people suddenly awoke one day to find themselves enslaved by the one thing that made them free--a government they trusted and ignored. Those same people continually said, "Oh, that's crazy. Those people can't do that." They were comfortable and wanted nothing to interrupt their easy way of life, so they did nothing, and when they found it did interrupt their lives, it was too late.
It is my understanding that the National Guard is the military for the state, and the Federal Military is allowed only to act outside the borders in order to protect the country from the same fate as Poland. However, Sec. 2 (d) of this document puts these two entities, both state and national, together; an act that could be potentially dangerous in the wrong hands. Is this President aligning his power grab for more than just your health care? Think about it. http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/president-obama-signs-executive-order-establishing-council-governors
