Where have all the role models gone?

A true leader and role model is one who encourages others to excel, encourages rather than discourages, builds up rather than tears down, is a role model for others to follow through generosity, kindness, a gentle spirit, forgiving, and by being strong but not overbearing. A true leader is all of these things and more; however, over the years I have seen the decay and disappearance of true leaders and role models throughout this country, and it has led to new generations filled with drugs, moral degradation, entitlements, slothfulness, and hatred. What are we fast becoming?

Children need role models in order to grow up as productive, moral citizens, and they need encouragement from those role models to ensure they will mimic and inspire to be just like their role models. Who are their role models? Politicians, movie stars, entertainers, sports figures, and yes, parents, school teachers, police officers, firemen, and even chefs. What happens when those role models are not good, but, in fact, encourage spite, hatred, slothfulness, drugs, alcohol, immoral living? Who are our role models today?

The President: this role model should be encouraging to people in the United States as well as around the world. He should lead with an iron fist, but also be willing to offer a gentle hand. However, just this past week he was heard telling young people in Africa that, "The planet will boil over if young Africans are allowed cars, air conditioning, and big houses..."  People, Global Warming, Climate Change, what ever you want to call it is a Ponzie scheme built around a bunch of politicians out to make some big bucks to fill their pockets and empty yours (cap and trade).  This big world has been around for millions of years, and what you or I do is not going to destroy it in any way...that's God's job. But, I digress. This country was based on the idea that everyone has the God given right to "pursue happiness." In other words, the right to work hard, build a business, achieve greatness and keep it, not be ordered to give it to someone who refuses to work as hard as you do, but instead stays home and does drugs.

Next on our list of role models, Movie Stars: Oh don't we have a dandy amount of great role models, just take your pick. They aren't even movie stars anymore, most are reality stars whose mouths are so dirty that a whole bar of Dial wouldn't get them clean. They walk around half naked, have babies out of wedlock, tweet horrible slurs at people, stay drunk or drugged, scream and shout hateful things at one another; Lord help us, what happened to the stars of yester year such as John Wayne, Ronald Reagan, and Jane Wyman. Jump on to www.live365.com sometime and listen to the great Old Time Radio programs, and you'll discover a love for entertainment all over again. The CBS Mystery theater that ended its programming with, "Remember, the family who prays together stays together," and not a foul word can be heard.

We can't forget the Sports Figures, 27 NFL players have been arrested just since the 2013 Super Bowl, that doesn't include college athletes, soccer players, baseball players, basketball players, or Olympic athletes, so what kind of example are we showing the children of today? Oh, but that's right, we raise children up these days with no reason to excel, practice, and improve our skills in order to win because now, everyone gets a trophy, so no one goes home disappointed. We are raising a new generation of wusses who demand pay for poor work, and who cannot problem solve because they haven't been given the skills, they've been given prescription drugs. Again, I digress.

I can go through every single one of these lacking role models, but I challenge you to change the outcome of the present and future generations by doing what we should have done in the first place, and that's to ostracize bad behavior in every form from the use of drugs to shacking up. Do not take and turn what is wrong into right because a bunch of progressive hippies insist we don't hurt someones feelings. It's time to hurt some feelings and call what's wrong -wrong, then maybe those people will change their bad behavior to what is truly right.
