Working for a year in a homeless shelter can do two things, harden ones heart to the homeless, and resent the fact that the taxpayer is paying for addictions; and not like you think. In the good book, The Bible for those who have never heard the term, Paul told the saints in 2 Thes. 3:10... "You don't work, you don't eat." Well, let me tell you something, there are a lot of people who don't want to work, but who are eating, taking drugs, and drinking on your dime, the taxpayer's dime that is. Don't get me wrong there are truly those who do need help, but there are way too many who don't.
Did you know that drug and alcohol addiction, according to the government and Social Security office are considered disabilities and qualify for funds? In fact, when listing disabilities drug addiction is the first on the list with alcohol second; physical/mental are last on the list. So, when, by your own hand, you fry your brain cells through meth, cocaine, or some other drug, or if you pickle your brain cells and liver with alcohol and continue to drink yourself into a stupor, that qualifies you to receive a Social Security Disability check. Don't want to work, by George, grab a needle or a bottle and you get a check! You can draw a check, receive foodstamps, do drugs or drink, run to the nearest food pantry for free food, and eat three meals a day at a soup kitchen.
Why do these people receive such benefits? It's because evidently, according to the government, these addictions are considered diseases. I'm confused. I always thought it was a choice to pickup that drug and or that bottle. Addictions are behaviors that can be corrected, but one has to truly want to quit. Thousands a day stop smoking, drinking, and taking illegal, as well as prescription drugs, so why should I be paying for someone who refuses to change their behavior?
That is why when my nephew went before, yet another, Social Security Judge, the judge asked him approximately four times if he was a drug addict or an alcoholic. When my nephew asked the judge if it was a requirement, the judge was outraged and denied my nephew his social security benefits, which my nephew has paid in most of his life, until the degenerative bone disorder he has prevented him from crawling under utility trailers to inspect them. So, let me get this straight....my nephew who walks like Frankenstein because of bone deterioration and lives in pain from rheumatoid arthritis cannot receive Social Security Disability, but the drug addict who continues to live in squalor in order to purchase more drugs can receive it. People, it is time to contact your Congressman.
On June 14, 2012, Forbes Magazine had a great article on the spending of this administration, http://www.forbes.com/sites/peterferrara/2012/06/14/president-obama-the-biggest-government-spender-in-world-history/ . Take a look and be amazed at the amount of spending being done. In 2009 alone, President Obama and his administration more than doubled the entitlement spending, that's welfare for the old folks. If you want to destroy a country, destroy their fiscal financial structure; just take a look at Greece. Part of those entitlements are spent to continue to enable the on-going behavior of the drug addict and the alcoholic while you pay for it through your tax dollars.
People should not be rewarded for bad behavior. That is what is wrong with this country today. The Progressives have turned any form of bad behavior into a disorder or disease. That's ridiculous. Rather than rewarding them, shouldn't we be rehabilitating them. How about requiring attendance to drug and alcohol programs that will help them kick the habit? Give them rehabilitation choices that will help them acclimate back into society and offer them a chance to be productive citizens rather than drains. What do you think?
