Did you ever think that CSpan could be entertaining? Well if you haven't watched it lately, then you are missing some of the best debates to ever come to the House and Senate. You are also missing an opportunity to actually hear what is in the bills that congress is trying to stuff down our throats.
On Saturday, November 7, while folding clothes and cleaning house, I was listening to the debates before the vote for the massive Healthcare Bill was to be voted on. Suddenly, I began to hear more than debates on the House floor, I was listening to what sounded like a good old-fashioned WWF Smackdown. It was labeled as "Democrat stalling" by the Republicans as those on the left brought in supporter after supporter of the bill to testify to greatness of this great monstrosity. The stall tactic was to spend time permitted for debate and lesson the time for rebutal by those on the right side of the isle. By the way, did you ever wonder why conservatives have been termed the right and liberals the left? Right, left? Anyway, back to the debate. The Republicans were blocking by continually objecting. It was entertaining all right, and the vote was finally cast at almost midnight. It was passed, and would then go to the Senate.
So, over the last several weeks I've continued to listen to the debates and rebutals. I've listened as senators have claimed that this huge health care bill is a must and won't cost the taxpayers more, but will lesson their cost, and I've also listened as other senators have testified that the same bill will cost the taxpayers a half trillion dollars. Just what is in this bill and how can anyone think of signing a bill that contains over 2400 pages, the largest bill in history, full of amendments and pork? What happened to all of that transparency that was promised on the campaign trail?
Today, as I was listening, a single-payer health care amendment wrapped up in 740 pages was submitted to the floor by 68-year-old, Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT), a self proclaimed Socialist Democrat and first Socialist ever to be voted into the senate in 2006. It was interesting because usually when an amendment is submitted, the president presiding over the Senate asks about the reading of the amendment, and usually no one wants to hear it; however, that was not what occurred today. Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK) rose to the occasion asking to hear a reading of the bill. That's when it hit the fan. After about three grueling hours of reads, and revealing the huge taxes that were going to be imposed on not only the healthcare industry, but also individuals as well, it was obvious that no one was supposed to see or hear that part, and Senator Sanders jumped up to withdraw his motion and then went into a thirty minute tyrade.
He was upset because all of the lies and the deceit was coming to the surface and couldn't be denied. Then again, during his ranting and raving he gave the good socialist moto, "never let a good crisis go to waste." We are in an economic crisis, we are in a health care crisis, we are in a war crisis, everything is a crisis, and I'm going through a "I'm over it crisis." Everything has to be done now or the world is going to end.
People, you had better wake up and smell the coffee. Tune-in to and listen to what is being said; you don't have to agree with it, but let it be a starting point in searching for the truth. Remember that a con-man convinces you that he's your friend. That's how he gains your confidence, you let him, and before you know, you've signed over your life savings to him. Think about it, congress is no different.
